KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat was recently featured as a great food to eat for heart health by MSN on “Eat This, Not That” as one the “20 Best Foods for Your Heart.” Other contenders include edamame, tomatoes, flaxseed, and kale.
A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that participants who ate KAMUT® wheat products in place of refined wheat reduced their total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (the bad kind), and inflammatory cytokines (which cause inflammation throughout the body) - in just eight weeks.
Based on early indications that many consumers with sensitivities to modern wheat could eat KAMUT® wheat products without the same negative effects, Kamut International (KI) began a research program to better understand the factors that make organic KAMUT® brand khorasan wheat an excellent alternative to modern wheat and an ideal choice for a healthy diet. Working in collaboration with well known institutions such as the University of Bologna and the University of Florence in Italy, this program has so far produced 25 scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals.
KI’s President and Founder, Bob Quinn, Ph.D. and KI’s full-time Research Director, Emanuela Simonetti, lead and manage this program with several other studies nearing completion or with papers in preparation. Studies have focused on a range of health issues including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), diabetes prevention, cardiovascular health, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity in addition to grain qualities such as inherent phytonutrients and anti-inflammatory characteristics.
